More Julia please

My dear friend JNKL had a spare pass to the sneak preview of Julie & Julia tonight and lucky me got to go. Let me just say:

IT WAS A GREAT FREAKING MOVIE!

It will do for Paris and cooking what Field of Dreams did for corn fields and old timey baseball. Also I predict a that Mastering the Art of French Cooking will sell out in droves, followed by a tidal wave of boeuf bourguignon in kitchens across America.

Meryl Streep did a magical turn as Julia Child and left me wanting more, more, ENCORE Julia! I couldn't wait for those scenes. As for the Julie part - it started off ok, but sort of faltered a little and at the end I was done with her but left wanting more of the Julia magic.

And yes, right now, I want to make swiss meringue. True story.

Tonight I made Peach Somethingorother. It was supposed to be like a kind of peach butter, however I didn't really use a recipe and I think I added a little more sugar than I ought. Breakfast at Toro

I tried to take my Irish friends to Mike's City Diner for breakfast this weekend and I really just should have known better. The problem at Mike's is that even if it's only 6 people waiting, there is some weird optical illusion in that place that makes it looks like 46 people are waiting. We didn't want to wait. And we didn't want to walk. So we had breakfast at Toro . What an excellent second choice. First off the woman who was working our table was absolutely lovely, and second off the food was a pleasant surprise, in that it was delicious and not a giant huge plate of food. There are those who feel that more is better and there are those who feel that less is more. I have a foot in both camps. There is never enough french fries but for the most part I prefer a little deliciousness more frequently than a big plate of something I just really need a taste of. Something like that anyway. Aggressive coffee.

The Evil Twin got us iced coffees this morning because it's what you do in Boston when the temps are above 40 degrees. Apparently she ordered hers "fucked up with 28 splenda". There is no other explanation. Unless it's "fuck you and your 28 splenda".
