Operation Baking Gals: Round Four

Now that the very awesome Susan of She's Becoming Doughmesstic has turned Operation Baking GALS into a major operation with a dedicated website and lots of team leaders to pick from, I am even MORE excited about being a baker for OBG.

Not that I wasn't before, it's just that when I try to point other potential bakers to a blog, they get this confused or disdainful look on their face and I know I've lost them. The website just makes everything so much easier.

Anyway, I went and signed up with Team SugarBakerz Sweeties. I think it is because the team leader is ex-Navy like my Dad.

The soldier we are baking for is apparently extremely excited to get some home baked sweetness and will apparently eat anything! Exactly my ideal recipient!

So I decided to send him a "Coffee Break" package.

The first thing to go in the box was a coffee cake:

Hmmmmm, what's under the bundt pan???

Ahhhhhh!!! The BIG reveal!

Yay! It's super moist delicious triple chocolate cake!

Sorry again about the crappy photos:

(Please note that the concord grape wine in the background was for a different project. As instructed this cake contains neither alcohol, nor pork product)

I wrapped it first in freezer paper, and then in a few layers of plastic wrap.

Then I wrapped that all up in aluminum foil, which La Maman still calls "sheffoil" and so do I usually and I have no idea why.

Weirdly the previously round bundt became a square bundt in the wrapping process. I know there is a lesson in this.

Then into the box the cake went, along with a box of Tasters Choice instant coffee packets. I am quite cross with myself because I forgot to include sugar packets.

BUT I did include milk! There are two reasons for this. One, I like a little milk in my coffee and two, the chocolate cake is rich and would be good with a little milk. Those small cartons are shelf-stable and pretty indestructible and so I got four packages to also act as a brace for the cake.

Two whole milk and two chocolate milk.

And then because EVERYONE hates nasty coffee breath, I threw in a package of Life-Saver mints. But now that I think about it, I am pretty sure that in a combat situation, having sweet breath is probably not a concern. Eh well, they taste good and are non-perishable.

All in all I am pretty happy with this package. It clocked in at a whopping 11 lbs of love in a box, although I am sad to say that the note that I usually include with instructions on how to re-order was left on my kitchen counter.

Happy trails "Coffee Break" box!

That is one lucky soldier! I tried to make espresso flavored chocolate chip cookies, but they were absolutely horrid. I'm going to try again.

Mary: See now, I would think that espresso chocolate chip would be delicious. What happened? Although I did one time make peanut butter and jam cookies that tasted dreadful, so I know how things can sound good but taste like poop.

SugarBakerz: You are SO welcome. .I had so much fun with this one. Best regards to Clay!
